*** Til ka Diya / Ellu Villaku, which is essentially a lamp made with a wick (containing black sesame wrapped in black cloth) and clean oil. For the divine blessing of Lord Shaneeswara. A Til ka Diya / Ellu Villaku must be lit for each member of the family and left at the temple at a designated area to finish burning. 

According to Vedic Dharma, the sesame seed was supposed to have originated when drops of sweat trickled from Sri Maha Vishnu (Preserver) in Kurma Avathar (Tortoise) and fell onto earth.  God Yamaraj (god of death) blessed the sesame seeds as a symbol of immortality, liberation & prosperity.
